As Senior Partnership Manager, Thomas McGuigan leads CareVicinity's community engagement in remote and regional Australia. He presents at speaking events that help older people understand their Support at Home funding and what it can do for them, and works alongside local providers to bring nearby residents into support work.
The aim is simple enough to say and hard to do: locals supporting locals.

Josh believes the best care comes from within a community, local people supporting the neighbours they already know. After years managing operations teams in the telecommunications industry, he went looking for work with real purpose and found it in aged care.
Now he partners with support workers in rural, regional and remote communities across Australia, helping build local capacity so older people can keep living at home, surrounded by the places and faces they love. Based in Brisbane, Josh reckons every strong community partnership starts the same way, with a genuine conversation.

What does this cost our community or council?
There's no cost to start the conversation. Care delivered through the platform is funded the way care is normally funded, through schemes like Support at Home and DVA, rather than out of council or community budgets. Who actually runs the support once it's set up?
The community does. Support is provided by local people who register as support workers on CareVicinity, and a local organisation or coordinator takes on the on-the-ground role, helping residents find the right support worker and organise their care. CareVicinity provides the platform, the insurance cover and Australia-based support behind it.
How does the funding work for residents?
Most people use existing government funding: Support at Home (formerly Home Care Packages) for older Australians or DVA for eligible veterans, and some choose to pay privately. A big part of our information sessions is helping residents understand what they may be eligible for and how to access it, so funding doesn't become a barrier to getting support.
What insurance cover is included?

How long does it take to get going?
